The Corners Pizza Brings Detroit-Style Square Pies to Sparkman Wharf

Tampa, Fla. (August 16, 2018) – Sparkman Wharf, Tampa’s waterfront destination for work, outdoor recreation, and dining, is pleased to announce The Corners Pizza, a new concept, which will bring Detroit- style square pies to Tampa’s waterfront. The Corners Pizza is the product of founder Chef Noel Cruz and Chef Anthony Messina. Cruz is known for popularizing ramen in Tampa Bay and his current projects include Ichicoro, c.1949, and chismis & co.,

“My family has always loved cooking, and food to me is just a mechanism to bring us together. This is in my blood. It’s an incredible opportunity to open this concept at Sparkman Wharf and be able to share my grandmother’s recipe with the Tampa Bay community,” said Chef Anthony Messina with a wink.

Detroit-style pizza is made in Motor City era blue steel square pans, generally industrial trays, originally intended to hold small parts in factories – giving the pizza its unique square shape, flavor, and texture. The crust is thick and airy with crispy cheesy edges. Think of this square pie immigrating from Sicily to Rome through Detroit then settling in Tampa. The Corners Pizza’s focus is simplicity and just being delicious.
